First collision of the year.

It was bound to happen and so it did. The first motor vehicle to bicycle collision. Notice I did not use the term accident. Want to know why read the previous blog post. The recent collision is the first in Sioux City for they year, is very likely the first in NW Iowa and maybe the first in the state of Iowa.

The driver of the truck, 18 yr old Austin Nielsen of Sioux City passed the 65 yr old cyclist too close. The 65 yr old cyclist was knocked to the ground by the mirror of the truck unconscious. The driver did stop and emergency help was called for. The cyclist was taken to the hospital but no charges have been filed against the driver yet.

This has been reported to the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and will be monitored to make sure justice is done should the driver be found at fault.

In reading some of the comments on the news articles I cannot believe some of the crap spewed by some. One even says we are fair game and funds should be raised so the cyclist can be sued. The person who stated this is now a threat to cyclists and has been reported.

This blog author is not sure yet whether this collisions was intentional by the 18 year old kid or unintentional. Who knows maybe the fool who made this comment in the news article,
"Tj weber said on: February 1, 2011, 10:43 am
First Stay off the roads with a bike in the winter."==============================================================
Second, How much road TAX do these bicyclist pay, These jerks need to pay a road tax to be on a street or Road anywhere, Or as this driver did the right thing hit them, Fare game I think its called,These bicyclist ride there bikes in the middle of the road out in the country, like there something special, Lets set up a fund for the driver of the truck and sue the bicyclist"
is the kid who hit the cyclist. Or one of those who hit one of the cyclists last year or even the one who threw the beer can at me when I was riding the ONABIKE event.
